Fontes’ research interests and publications cover fundamental mathematics, but mostly mathematical modeling applications, in particular development of mathematical modeling methods and algorithms targeting biomedical and clinical applications. His current research is directed towards modeling of pathogen-immune system interactions and systems immunology, trying to uncover new functional biological mechanisms that can have a direct impact on human health and treatment of disease.
