Biography Verdiana Masanja
Professor Verdiana Grace Masanja Google Scholar is a renowned Tanzanian mathematician currently serving as Professor at Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT) and Professor Emerita of Applied Mathematics and Computational Science at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST). She chairs the Board of Directors of the Tanzania Forestry Research Institute (TAFORI) and is Vice President of the African Mathematical Union (AMU) for Eastern Africa. Trained in Mathematics and Physics at the University of Dar es Salaam and holding a PhD in Fluid Mechanics from the Technical University of Berlin, she has taught and researched at universities for nearly five decades.
Professor Masanja has held academic leadership roles including Director and Deputy Vice Chancellor, overseeing postgraduate studies, research, and innovation. She is also an Adjunct Lecturer at DHBW Mosbach, Germany, and Distinguished Professor at the University of Kigali. A passionate advocate for women in STEM, she has led numerous boards and associations, including FAWE Tanzania, TEN/MET, MAT, and FEMSA.
She has authored, co-authored, or edited many academic articles, books and proceedings. Her many recognitions include awards from HeForShe, NEF, EAUMP, and UDSM for her outstanding contributions to mathematics and gender advancement in STEM across Africa.
