Zhiming Chen received Bachelor Degree of Sciences at Nanjing University China in 1986,, Master Degree of Sciences at Institute of Mathematics of Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing in 1989, and PhD at University of Augsburg in Germany in 1992. He has been working in Chinese Academy of Sciences since June 1994. He is now a full professor in the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science of Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Zhiming Chen works in the field of numerical analysis and scientific computing. He was awarded the Feng Kang Prize on Scientific Computing in 2001, the China Second National Natural Science Prize in 2009, and the Shiing S. Chern Mathematics Award in 2015. He was elected to be an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2017. He became a SIAM Fellow in 2022. He was an invited speaker of ICM 2006 and will deliver an invited talk in the forthcoming ICIAM 2027.
