Biography Zhouping Xin
Professor Zhouping Xin, the William M. W. Mong Professor of Mathematics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), is an expert in the areas of nonlinear partial differential equations, fluid mechanics, nonlinear waves, numerical methods and analysis for PDEs and applied mathematics. He obtained his bachelor and master degrees from Northwest University (Xi’an). After he received Ph.D from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) in 1988, Professor Xin joined Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University (NYU) first as a Courant Instructor, where he became a full professor in 1996. In 1998, Professor Xin moved to CUHK where he has been the William M. W. Mong Professor of Mathematics since 2004. Professor Zhouping Xin is currently the Executive Director of The Institute of Mathematical Sciences at CUHK. Professor Xin received many academic honors including: Sloan Research Fellowship (1991, USA), Presidential Fellowship of NYU (1993); ICM invited speaker (2002); and Morningside Gold Medal in Mathematics (2004). Professor Xin is the co-editor-in-chief of Methods and Applications of Analysis, and he is holding memberships of the editorial boards for many prestigious journals such as Mathematical Models and Methods in Applied Sciences, Kyoto J. Math., and Sciences China Mathematics, etc. He was on editorial boards of many prestigious journals, such as SIAM J. Math. Anal., J. Math. Phys, etc.
